Position Title: Executive Director of the San Juan Economic Development Corporation (EDC)

Department: San Juan Economic Development Corporation (EDC)

Reports To: The San Juan EDC Board of Directors

Position Summary: The Executive Director of the San Juan Economic Development Corporation will provide high-level support to the Board of Directors of the San Juan EDC. This role involves handling confidential information, and facilitating communication within the organization and with external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and possess excellent organizational and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Planning:
    • Develop and execute strategies to achieve economic development goals, including creating and implementing economic development programs and initiatives.
    • Identify and pursue opportunities to attract new businesses and industries while also working to retain and expand existing businesses within the community.
  2. Meeting Coordination:
    • Present agenda items to the EDC Board of Directors Meetings.
    • Follow up on action items and ensure timely completion.
  3. Communication Management:
    • Act as a liaison between the EDC Board of Directors and internal/external stakeholders.
    • Manage relationships with community stakeholders, including business owners, elected officials and residents.
  4. Project Management:
    • Manage the planning and coordinating of special projects and events, including workshops, board meetings, and community outreach initiatives.
  5. Confidentiality and Discretion:
    • Handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity and discretion.
    • Ensure compliance with the organization's policies and procedures.
  6. Office Management:
    • Manage the EDC staff and their daily duties to streamline procedures and to improve stakeholders service and operational efficiency.
    • Support general office operations as needed.
  7. Budget Management:
    • Develop and manage the economic development department’s budget.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an executive support role, preferably within an economic development or government environment.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
    • Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
    • Familiarity with project management tools and customer relationship management (CRM) systems is a plus.
    • Experience with zoning code development, review, analysis or code enforcement preferred.
    • Excellent project management skills, including skills in planning, organizing, evaluating, analyzing problems.
    • Experience with GIS, database editing or management preferred.
    • Understanding of engineering project planning.

Work Environment:

  • This position will be based in the San Juan City Hall EDC office with occasional travel as required.
  • Will Involve attendance at evening or weekend meetings or events.
